How to Write For PolicyMic

PolicyMic is a high-quality democratic news and media platform powered by millennials.  Our mission is to engage smart young thinkers in thoughtful discussion around current events.

Writers have the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of digital media, gain experience composing smart web content, and work directly with an editor to receive feedback on their writing and to help promote their work.

How You Can Get Involved:

1. Section writerPolicyMic offers remote writers the chance to become columnists and receive a crash course in online politics, culture or feminism writing. Writers work closely with a section editor to develop story ideas, craft headlines, and receive constructive feedback on each piece. This opportunity is geared toward those who are able to contribute on a weekly or monthly basis, and need more time to research and write a story.

2. On-call breaking news writer: Accepted writers commit to writing at least twice a week within a time frame agreed upon in advance. During that time, an editor will send a story topic based on the writer's interests and he/she will craft a 400- to 500-word news analysis piece. We set the on-call deadlines in advance so the writer will know when to expect a story and we know where we can assign stories when news breaks.  **University students may receive credit for this position.** (see option 3)

3.Write for university credit: PolicyMic provides remote internship opportunities to college students who seek a rigorous writing education program. The length of the internship depends on the requirements of the intern’s university or department — typically about 14 weeks. During working hours, you will work closely with the editorial team, writing articles based on your areas of interest and expertise.
