How I Met Your Mother Season 9: In Final Season, We Will Finally Meet Ted's Wife

Culture

Since 2005, audiences have been waiting to find out how Ted will finally meet "your" mother. Finally, the deadline for that reveal is on the horizon. It's about time.

After eight seasons, the super-smash CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother will make its ninth season its last. The episode will air during the 2013-14 broadcast season. For a show entirely based on a mysterious secret (how does Ted meet his children's mother?) they've teased out the premise for about as long as possible.

The necessity for a ninth season was largely dictated by the shows creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas. The writing team have long said they'd need a full year to tie up the show's loose ends.

All five of the show's stars (Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris, and Alyson Hannigan) will return for the final season. The show's ratings peaked in Season 7 but have remained consistently high. Currently, How I Met Your Mother averages 10 million viewers

Even non-fans may be turning in next season to join in the water-cooler talk about who Ted's wife will turn out to be. Is it someone we've met? Someone new? A flash in the pan guest star? A nine-year secret will soon be coming to a close.
