Zombie Apocalypse Face Eating Satire And Today's Mic Check

Bad economic news – The economy added only net 69,000 jobs in the month of May, raising the unemployment rate to 8.2%. The U.S. needs to add 150,000 jobs a month to move unemployment in the right direction.
But swing states are moving Obama’s way (via Politico) – In the swing states that will almost certainly decide the 2012 election, economic trends favor Obama as unemployment moves lower than the national average according to a Moody’s Analytics report. The following chart shows unemployment trends and projections for several key battleground states:

  September 2010 Today September 2012
Ohio 9.8% 7.4% 7.2%
Florida 11.3% 8.7% 8.7%
Nevada 11.9% 11.7% 11.9%
Colorado 8.9% 7.9% 7.1%
Virginia 6.8% 5.6% 5.6%

Therefore, we’re hosting a competition: E-mail us (caltchek@policymic.com) your best ideas for a new name, and if we pick your suggestion, you’ll get $500 (if multiple people suggest the same name, you'll split it). The mistrial – Why John Edwards should not be retried (via WashPo). Mr. Edwards’s undeniably reprehensible conduct was not a criminal offense. “In order to find him guilty, the jury would have had to determine beyond a reasonable doubt that Mr. Edwards acted knowingly and willfully to violate the campaign finance laws. That was always a stretch.”
