Polaroid Snap Camera: Price and Where to Buy Ink-Less Instant Digital Camera

Impact

It's time once again to "shake it like a Polaroid picture": Polaroid has made a revamped version of its famous instant film camera. The Polaroid Snap instant digital camera boasts a compact size — the company says it will fit "in your shirt pocket" — and comes in at a price of just $99, Polaroid announced Wednesday.

Camera features and a new look: Scott Hardy, Polaroid's president and CEO, described the Polaroid Snap camera in a statement as a "modern twist on classic Polaroid instant cameras." It features a 10-megapixel sensor, a self-timer and a photo booth app, and can print wallet-sized photos instantly with the touch of a button and without any ink.

Instead, the camera uses printing technology that uses heat to react with dye crystals in the photo paper. The photo paper, which costs $29.99 for a pack of 50, is adhesive-backed for sticking photos on various surfaces, Forbes reports.

The Polaroid Snap's design is a bit cartoonish, yet simple, and sports the company's signature color spectrum

No smartphone required: What's the idea behind Polaroid's latest instant digital camera? Its designers hope the point-and-shoot camera, a piece of equipment that's been nearly lost on a generation of social media users and selfie takers, could help bring back the physical image.

"Very few people print pictures anymore," Robert Brunner, the founder and president of Ammunition, the design firm behind the Polaroid Snap, told Wired. "Now, you share on social media, or at a party you pass the phone around. Photography used to be about that sense of joy and the physical artifact."

Where to buy the Polaroid Snap: It won't go on sale until later this year. It's expected to come in several color options, including white, black, red and blue. Check out Polaroid's website for more.
