Florida Teacher Chris Ulmer Begins Each Day Complimenting Students

Impact

Chris Ulmer is a special needs teacher to eight students at Mainspring Academy in Jacksonville, Florida, according to USA Today. Ulmer, with help from his students' parents, pays his students 10 minutes of compliments each morning.

The goal is to teach love and acceptance to his students, USA Today reported. "These children deserve to be heard, loved and appreciated," he wrote in a Facebook post in November. "The world needs to understand that in many ways, the children have it right. We need to learn from them."

Ulmer has put together a blog called Special Books by Special Kids to open up a discussion regarding the children and their diagnoses.

"You are a great student, I love having you in my class, you're funny, you're athletic, you're a great soccer player," he told one student in the video before giving him — and every other student — a high-five.
