2016 Billboard Music Awards Winners: Complete List of Who Took Home the Night's Top Prizes

The 2016 Billboard Music Awards are one of the most data and sales-driven of all the televised awards shows.

Instead of relying on an expert voting committee, like the Grammys, or letting the people vote directly, like the People's Choice Awards, winners are judged through a combination of "key fan interactions with music," according to Billboard, "including album and digital songs sales, radio airplay, streaming, touring and social interactions on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Spotify and other popular online destinations for music."

Appropriately, the biggest chart-topping artists come to the fore. The most nominated artist going in is the Weeknd, who became a household name in 2015, appears 19 times in 16 categories, including top artist and top R&B album. Behind him is another Canadian, Justin Bieber, whose name appears 12 times in 11 categories. Drake and Fetty Wap both appear 11 times in 10 categories. And Taylor Swift and Adele are both up for 8 awards.
