Rihanna, Awkwafina and Helena Bonham Carter Potentially Joining All-Female 'Ocean's 8'

Culture

The all-female cast of the new Ocean's movie is beginning to take shape — and it may be a dream come true for anyone who ever wanted to see Anne Hathaway and Rihanna share a scene together.

Deadline reported five actresses are approaching deals to join Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett in Ocean's Eight, including Hathaway and Rihanna. Reportedly close to joining the Oscar winner and the Barbadian songstress: Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling and Awkwafina, aka rapper and actress Nora Lum.

The assembled seven represent a range of talents, from career actors to performers relatively new to film. Rihanna's most notable film role was in the cinematic adaptation of Battleship; Awkwafina was a co-star in this year's Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising.

Hunger Games director Gary Ross is helming the crime-caper film, which is still closing deals with the new five actresses, according to Deadline. But as the title states, Ocean's Eight needs eight members of the team, and this only numbers seven.

Who will get the final slot? Perhaps it can be an older actress — currently Bullock is the elder of the group, at age 52. Might we suggest Maggie Smith? Or Cicely Tyson? Judith Light, perhaps? Watching one of them go HAM would be the cherry on top of this casting.
