Alabama Election Results Live: Donald Trump beats Hillary Clinton in the Crimson State

Impact

No Democrat has won Alabama's nine electoral votes since 1976. The state was one of the few that voted for George Wallace in 1968, when he ran on an anti-civil rights platform.

Alabama voters gave Donald Trump a resounding victory on Election Day. Trump beat Hillary Clinton by 26 percentage points, more than Mitt Romney's 22-point victory four years ago. John McCain won by a similar margin in 2008, and George W. Bush won Alabama by 25 points in 2004.

The state saw little polling in the 2016 cycle. A Washington Post poll in September gave Trump a greater than 20-point lead in the state.
