'Stranger Things' season 2 cast tease the post-Upside Down Will — and it doesn't sound good

In just a few short months, things will once again take a strange turn on Netflix. The streaming giant's original series, Stranger Things, will return for its second season in time for Halloween. And it could not come soon enough.

Stranger Things' initial season was met with near universal critical acclaim, was nominated for a Golden Globe for best drama series and earned the entire cast a Screen Actors Guild award. The series' first season revolved around the strange disappearance of Will Byers, who viewers know was whisked away to the Upside Down realm.

Will was eventually saved by his pals and their mysteriously super-powered friend, Eleven. Though Will was rescued from the Upside Down, the first season ended with the tease that he may still have some connection to that other world. And it appears that all will not be well with Will when the series returns.

Series star Gaten Matarazzo, who plays Dustin, addressed how the group of friends will react to Will, who has clearly changed since being rescued from the other realm. "They know [Will] is not well," Matarazzo told TV Line. "But they are just trying to pretend [nothing] happened."

While it is not clear exactly what Will will be going through, perhaps it has to do with the new monster that will be plaguing the inhabitants of Hawkins, Indiana. Also speaking with TV Line, series co-creator Ross Duffer hinted that the next season's antagonist will spend more time outside the shadows than the Demogorgon.

"Last season, a lot of the horror and a lot of what was happening with Will was off screen in the Upside Down," Duffer said. "That’s not the case [in season two]. The horror is more up-close and personal."

It sounds like fans will be in for a scare when the series returns on Halloween, Oct. 31.
