End of the World: Australian PM Julia Gillard Warns of Possible Zombie Apocalypse

Culture

Today Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard addressed her country, and warned Aussies, "The end of the world is coming. It wasn’t Y2K, it wasn’t even the carbon price. It turns out that the Mayan calendar is true."

She continued her dire speech, saying, "Whether the final blow comes from flesh-eating zombies, demonic hell-beasts or the total triumph of K-Pop, if you know one thing about me, it is this: I will always fight for you to the very end."

Although PolicyMic readers will know that we have long suspected that humanity would meet its fate in a Walking Dead-style zombie apocalypse, increasing (nonexistent) evidence shows that any number of plausible suspects could doom the inhabitants of Earth. These include: marauding black holes, a flu epidemic, a massive tectonic shift leading to floods that would've swallowed Noah's mythical ark, a giant asteroid like the one that wiped out the dinosaurs, the rise of the machines, a nuclear holocaust, and a geomagnetic reversal of the Earth's poles, among other possibilities.

However humans become extinct, it's important to distinguish that it's not the end of the world, but just the end of us, as George Carlin once put it so eloquently.
