NRA Press Conference on Sandy Hook: Call for Guns in Schools

Impact

Executive Vice Wayne LaPierre starts out by emphasizing that NRA members are parents, says they joined the nation in horror and prayer.

He says they’ve refrained from comment out of respect for the families, accuses others of exploiting the tragedy for political gain.

The most important question we face, he says, is “how do we protect our children right now, starting today, in a way that we know works?”

“The only way to answer that question is to face the truth,” he says, pointing to gun-free school zone laws. Say gun-free zones tell maniacs that gun-free schools are the safest way to “inflict maximum damage with minimum risk.”

“We care about our money, so we protect our banks with armed guards,” he says.
