Indian Gang-Rape Victim Dies in Singapore Hospital

After fighting for her life, the 23 year-old student victimized by a gang rape in India passed away early Saturday morning, officials said. Singapore's Mount Elizabeth hospital said the woman "died peacefully."

On December 16, the woman and her male friend were traveling on a public bus in New Delhi when six men attacked and beat them both, and raped her. The acts continued until the men stripped them both naked and threw them off the bus on a road.

The gang-rape and horrific effects on the woman have mobilized Indians, who have held almost daily demonstrations demanding greater protections from sexual violence, from groping to rape. These acts of violence are said to impact thousands of Indians every day and usually go unreported.
