Ron Paul's Grandson Arrested at Charlotte Airport For Underage Drinking

Impact

Now that Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) has hinted he'd run for president in 2016, there's already a mild family scandal the libertarian-leaning senator — son of legendary libertarian icon Ron Paul — would have to deal with during a hypothetical run to the White House.

Nineteen-year-old William Hilton Paul, reportedly the son of Rand and grandson of Representative and 2012 presidential candidate Ron Paul (R-Texas), has been charged with "underage drinking and disorderly conduct" after being arrested over the weekend at North Carolina's Charlotte Douglas International Airport, authorities said — according to WPTV.com.

It is unclear if the young Paul got drunk at the airport or if he came already intoxicated from a previous location.

Meanwhile, Senator Rand Paul's office released a statement through communications director Moira Bagley calling the incident "a private family matter."

"Sen. Paul is a national public figure and subject to scrutiny in the public arena, however, as many parents with teenagers would understand, his family should be afforded the privacy and respect they deserve in a situation such as this."
