Obama Attacks the Defense Sequester

Impact

Obama is going on the offensive against sequester advocates, including Republicans who want to only stop the sequester against the defense cuts onto other spending areas. Currently, the sequester would cut the Pentagon's budget by $42.7 billion this year alone.

Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta warned of the negative effects of these cuts in his testimony to the Senate Armed Services Committee last week. According to The Washington Post, he said: “instead of being a first-rate power in the world, we’d turn into a second-rate power.”
