Mindy Kaling New Book: Follow Up to 'Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?'

Culture

Mindy Kaling might just be the smartest woman in comedy, so it's no surprise that the Mindy Project mastermind and Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? author is working on her next book, which will be a follow-up to her 2011 memoir on breaking into the entertainment industry, among other things.

During a PaleyFest panel in Beverly Hills, Calif., over the weekend, the Massachusetts native revealed that she intends to spend her down time between Mindy Project seasons penning her untitled book, which she says will detail "the high highs and low lows of the past 18 months" and should be on sale “in like a year and a half.”

Kaling has had quite a wild ride since the 2011 release of Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?, having landed a sitcom on Fox and appeared in movies such as Wreck-It Ralph and The Five-Year Engagement. Because Kaling started writing for The Office in her twenties, it wasn't a huge surprise to see that her book was well-written, funny, and engaging, but The Mindy Project hasn't had the best luck in its first season.

Ratings haven't been great and some have complained the show excessively relies on rom-com jokes and plot lines. I'm sure we can expect an awesome second season of The Mindy Project though, and given all the career excitement Kaling has experienced recently, she's sure to put out an interesting follow-up book.
