Stephen Amell Fifty Shades Of Grey: Actor in Talks to Play Christian Grey
Since E.L. James' self-published Fifty Shades series exploded on the market last spring, many have wondered who will play main character, Christian Grey in the highly-anticipated film adaptation of the novel.
Many names have been thrown around, but Arrow star Stephen Amell admitted via Facebook last week that he's been in talks to appear in the movie. Though his Facebook video message was slightly discouraging and cryptic, he confirmed he's had a meeting about the project, so it's probably safe to say hes a top contender for the part of the BDSM-loving businessman.
"I get questions about Christian Grey all the time," Amell said in his video, which features him in a beanie. "That project is a long way off. I know this, because I had a meeting about it. Long way off. I mean, not that long, but not close. I wouldn’t call it long, but I wouldn’t call it close."
Okaaayyyy...
Having read all three of the books, I can definitely see this guy as the assertive, tormented, unspeakably gorgeous Grey, so hopefully he ends up getting the role. He certainly has pretty eyes like Grey, and the personality seems to match up.
This could break the hearts of those who want ever-so-perfect Ryan Gosling to be Grey, but writer E.L. James insists reports of The Gos being a favorite are untrue, "No, that's completely misreported. What happened is that [a] local paper ... reported on my husband being the inspiration for Christian Grey. Underneath it they put a picture of Ryan Gosling, as well. So that's how it came about."
It wouldn't matter anyway, as Gosling recently announced his plans to take a break from acting, "I've been doing too much. I've lost perspective on what I'm doing. I think it's good for me to take a break and reassess why I'm doing it and how I'm doing it. And I think this is probably a good way to learn about that. I need a break from myself as I imagine the audience does."
So if you were hoping for Gosling to take on the role, sorry, but he's out of the picture. You have Ian Somerhalder and now Amell in the running.
Though we still don't know who will ultimately assume the role of Grey, we have even fewer answers on who will play series lead Anastasia Steele.
Harry Potter sweetheart Emma Watson recently dispelled rumors that she may do the flick, tweeting, "Who here actually thinks I would do 50 Shades of Grey as a movie? Like really. For real. In real life?"
Well, that's settled. The Descendants actress Shailene Woodley is reportedly one of James' main picks for the role, but the young lady has just been offered the lead in The Fault in Our Stars, so she's probably pretty busy at the moment.
