NFL Draft 2013 Projections: Eric Fisher Goes To The Chiefs

Culture

The twittersphere has exploded in the past four hours with rumors surrounding the number one pick. This is the first time since 2006 that the number one pick has been in question the day of the draft. The Texans went out on a limb and decided to go with Mario Williams (DE, NC State) over Reggie Bush (RB, USC).

The Chiefs considered drafting a quarterback with the first overall selection before they acquired Alex Smith via trade with the San Francisco 49ers on March 12th. Then it became clear they were targeting an offensive tackle and Luke Joeckel's name was attached to the top slot. Eric Fisher was a mainstay in the top five of mock drafts internet wide but he's made a strong move in the last few days and now appears poised to hear his name called first.

Fisher was a third team AP All-American this year for the Chippewas and has ideal size and strength to be a franchise left tackle. When it comes to Fisher, the word "upside" has been bandied about by draftniks, but the Fisher-Joeckel debate will only be settled on the field and not on the stage.
