At 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, the 67th annual Tony Award nominations were announced. The leader of the nominee pack is the new Broadway musical Kinky Boots which came in with 13 nominations. Matilda was a close second with 12 nods. In the play category Golden Boy, a revival, came in with eight nominations, while Nora Ephron's Lucky Guy scored six.
Big name actors nominated this year include Cicely Tyson in The Trip to Bountiful and Tom Hanks in Lucky Guy. A very noteworthy snub was the omission of Bette Midler in the Best Actress category for her role in I'll Eat You Last. Her performance has been met with critical praise and after 40 years off the Broadway stage buzz was that she would be honored.
The Tony awards will take place on June 9. For a full list of nominees, see below.
