Apple Offshore Taxes: Senator Rob Portman Jumps On the Tax Reform Bandwagon

Impact

Senator Rob Portman went up to the bat for Apple, bringing up Apple’s biggest competitor in the mobile device markets, Samsung, a South Korean company. Portman highlighted several differences between the South Korean tax system and the U.S. tax system.

Portman’s overall point was to push for tax reform, a legislative initiative that President Obama has indicated we would like to achieve during his second term. He claimed that by reforming the tax system the issues brought up at the hearing could be resolved. Of course the other question that comes up is that can any tax reform pass congress in its current state of deadlock.
