Kim Kardashian Baby Name: Baby Kimye Is North West

What's going on in the world today? We have no idea because the only thing America is talking about is the fact that Kim and Kanye have finally announced the name of their. Drum roll please ... baby Kimye is named North West.

Should we really be surprised that the couple named their daughter after a direction? The answer is no, not at all. What's more surprising is how well the A-list couple was able to keep the name a secret.

In case you haven't been keeping track of all the baby drama, here's a timeline for your Friday reading pleasure.

December 30, 2012:

Kanye West announces during a concert in Atlantic City, N.J., "Can you make some noise for my baby mama?" The impromptu announcement surprised Kim as well as the rest of America.

December 31, 2012:

Kim confirmed the news on her personal blog that, "It's true!! Kanye and I are expecting a baby. We feel so blessed and lucky ... Looking forward to great new beginnings in 2013 and to starting a family. Happy New Year!!!"

The rumors spiraled out of control. The soon-to-be-baby would be the biggest phenomenon to hit America's baby radar since Blue Ivy.

December 31, 2012 onwards:

The speculation continued, though most Americans agreed on two criteria for the baby name: first, it would inevitably start with a K; and secondly, it would be unusual. Most of America was one for two.

March 29, 2013:

On a visit to The Tonight Show, Kim dispelled the "rumors" about the baby name.

“We have a list and some of them are K name and some of them aren’t,” she told Leno.

When the talk show host brought up the possibility of Kim and Kanye naming the baby North, Kim responded, "that’s not one of the names on our list." She did, however, throw out the possibility that they would name the baby Easton West (and I'm slightly disappointed they didn't). She also told Leno she thinks that naming girls with traditionally male names is cute.

June 2, 2013:

During the season 8 premiere of Keeping Up with The Kardashians, Kim revealed that the unborn child is a girl. Announced in true reality-show fashion, Kim's doctor tells her during an ultrasound "I don't see any peepees," and that he is "99%" sure the fetus is a girl.

June 8, 2013:

Rumors surface, according to the Examiner that Kimye were trying to keep up with the trends by attempting to trademark the unannounced baby name in the way that Jay-Z and Beyonce tried to trademark Blue Ivy.

June 15, 2013:

When Kim gave birth five weeks ahead of schedule, the shit hit the fan. Americans put their detective caps on, trying desperately to uncover the baby's name before the tabloids could reveal the truth.

June 17, 2013:

The mystery name became the subject of online betting arenas. Many Americans accompanied their guesses with money on the table. Perhaps even more strange than the betting is the fact that the Times of India reported the results. The betting trend revealed Kay had a 20/1 chance of being chosen, while Kim and Kris has  8/1 and 20/1 odds respectively. Kimye, the couples celeb nickname, showed odds of 25/1 just before Mia and Lara, both of which posited 33/1 odds. Bets on the names Krystal, Kristen, Kara and Kacey were also popular.

June 18, 2013:

One of Kim's close friends dropped the ball, although we didn't know it at the time. "North is at the top of the list of names," she said to In Touch. She added that "they're not totally sure about it. Kanye loves it, Kim is okay with it.” This "pal" ensured In Touch the couple would decide on the final name by the end of the day. Americans tracked their Twitter accounts attentively, but to no avail.

June 19, 2013:

According to the Huffington Post, a nurse at Cedars Sinai hospital where Kim gave birth in L.A slipped that the couple named the baby Kaidence Donda West.

June 20, 2013:

Finally, the moment we've all been waiting for. Kim and Kanye announced to America that they've named their baby girl North West. As TMZ reported, the name choice made the most sense of any option on the compass: "West West is redundant ... South West is an airline ... and East West leads to nowhere."
