Berlice Bassas

I was born and raised in Miami, Florida to Cuban parents. I grew up in a part of Miami called Hialeah where 75% of the population is Cuban American. I like to joke, it's not "South Florida" it's "North Cuba." Politics was always an important topic both at home and within the community, this is where my initial spark of interest came from. I received a bachelors degree in journalism from the New School in 2010, and I did several political internships while I was there. First I worked in city hall under councilmen Simcha Felder, then I worked for senator Chuck Schumer. I consider myself moderate and although I've mostly voted for democrats, I'm registered as "no party affiliation."
