Emma Chasen

I am a student at Brown University studying medicine. Although I'm immersed in the sciences, I have a deep love for democracy and debate. In high school I created a magazine, What Do We Care?, that allowed students to express their opinions on current issues facing the world. I worked with local congressmen to circulate the magazine and expand the readership with the hope that more young people would be inspired to speak out about their opinions of the problems discussed in the news. I am radically liberal, but highly respect all points of view that want to keep the leaders of our country honest and accountable for their actions. I want the government to stay out of social issues, such as gay marriage and abortion, which they have no business regulating. Instead our current leaders should work to mature, so that democracy can be restored with compromise. The country needs to rise from the depths of debt and begin to evolve with a higher level of consciousness.
