Gabriel "Jack" Chin is a teacher and scholar of Immigration Law, Criminal Procedure, and Race and Law. His writing has appeared in the Duke, UCLA and Harvard Civil Rights-Civil Liberties law reviews and the Georgetown Law Journal among others. In Padilla v. Kentucky, 130 S. Ct. 1473 (2010), the U.S. Supreme Court cited his Cornell Law Review article, Effective Assistance of Counsel and the Consequences of Guilty Pleas, five times in opinions agreeing that the Sixth Amendment required defense attorneys to advise clients about the possibility of deportation.
