I don’t know about you, but sometimes the thought of organizing my space is so overwhelming, I avoid it and continue to live in chaos. Well, it turns out it’s way easier — and cheaper — than I thought to find simple storage solutions without breaking the bank. I talked to a bunch of professional organizers to get their simple, affordable tips and tricks for a more organized space. From repurposing things you already have at home to create inventive storage solutions to containing like things in baskets, here are their favorite storage and organizational solutions.

01

Get your under-sink area in check with easy-to-grab plastic storage bins

Angela O'Brien, founder of Your Space Reclaimed, called plastic organizer bins her “one go-to and yet inexpensive organizing product that I find myself using in almost any room or bathroom.” Storage bins like these are great because not only can you always see what’s inside at a glance, but they have strong and convenient handles that make pulling them out easy. They’re great for storing cleaning supplies under the sink, medical essentials in the bathroom, or dry ingredients in the pantry.

02

Organize your pantry with clear bins that have handles

“Plastic organizer bins with comfortable handles that are easy to grab in the front are perfect for under the sink and fit nicely on a shelf inside a cabinet or pantry,” O’Brien explains. These long and narrow bins are stackable to take advantage of oft overlooked vertical storage space in your refrigerator or pantry. They’re great for keeping your fresh produce, beverages, and snacks close at hand and visible to prevent things from getting lost and going to waste.

03

Tidy up with a large cotton rope basket that has mod color blocking

O’Brien also loves something like this cotton rope basket. “A catch-all basket in each room or perhaps at each end of the stairs can be a great way to quickly tidy up a space,” she explains. This one is great for its size — it’s huge and can fit so much stuff — and also because it looks so darn cute. The color block design features neat thread stitching and firm handles that are strong enough to pull and tug at without worry. Plus, when you’re not using it, it folds up for compact storage.

04

Get small items off the floor & into a woven wicker basket

“Getting items off the floor and consolidated into a pretty container creates an immediate feeling of openness to any room,” O’Brien continues. If you need something smaller than an extra-large floor basket, check out this woven basket that’s perfect in an entry way as a go-to spot for keys, wallets, sunglasses, and other everyday essentials. It’s handmade of natural wicker in a gorgeous woven design that means its stunning and super sturdy.

05

Declutter & put unneeded items in these tall kitchen trash bags

“The cheapest way to keep your house tidy, clean, and functional is to declutter it completely!” O’Brien says. “You won’t spend a dime on decluttering unless you count the trash bags that you bought holding your now-ready-to-donate items.” These tall kitchen trash bags are great for both decluttering items you want to donate and collecting things that are ready to be thrown in the garbage. They’re tear resistant, super flexible, unscented, and have a red drawstring closure that’s sturdy and strong.

06

Label things with these chalkboard stickers that come with a fine tip marker

Professional organizer at Valley Organizing Christian Pfeiffer says that one of the best decluttering hacks is to “label the containers/items that you can.” Something like these chalkboard stickers are super versatile for your pantry, bathroom, garden, and beyond. The pack of 96 comes with a bunch of different shapes and sizes, as well as a fine tip chalk marker to write all the labels you need. When it’s time to re-label, just wipe the sticker down with a wet towel and you’ve got a blank slate again.

07

Date reusable containers with these pretty labels that dissolve in water

Another labeling option if the chalkboard style isn’t your thing are these pretty stickers that dissolve when you’re done with them. Use them like a regular label — peel them off, stick them on, and write on them using any kind of pen — and when you’re done, run them under any temperature water for 30 seconds and watch them disappear before your eyes without leaving any sticky or tacky residue. They work, too, just look at their 4.8-star rating.

08

Organize your shelves with these stackable bins that have bamboo lids

Pfeiffer is a fan of stackable bins for organizing. These plastic ones are particularly great because they come with a bamboo lid, making them great for stacking or creating an overall clean and polished look on the shelves in your pantry, bookcase, office, or more. Plus, they feature a holed, ventilated design, sturdy handles, and area for a convenient label.

09

Store smaller items in these stackable bins with easy pull-out drawers

These stackable drawers are also great for a variety of things, whether you want to organize the makeup and skincare on your vanity or the sundries under your sink. Not only do they look super sleek, but the see-through plastic means you can always see what’s inside, and the drawer-style makes it easy to grab whatever you need quickly.

10

Organize the inside of your drawers with these best-selling inserts

Pfeiffer also likes drawer organizers, and these inserts are a great way to organize your things — just look at their 4.7-star rating and bestseller status. The 25-piece set comes with four different sizes you can mix and match like a game of Tetris until your drawer is perfectly segmented and ready for your things. Plus, they have a nonslip bottom to keep them from moving around when you open and close the drawers.

11

They use two metal hooks to attach to the top of your door and that’s it — no tools or sticky tape required.

It’s made of aluminum so it’s safe for the outdoors, and has a super strong 3M adhesive backing to secure on your wall or mailbox.

It uses thermal technology for ink-less printing, so this is a long-lasting, easy-to-use solution.

17

Get your shoes off the floor & on this shoe rack with 72,000 5-star ratings

With three tiers — and one on the floor underneath — this shoe rack can hold up to 16 pairs, so it’s no wonder why it has bestseller status on Amazon. Tall boots and booties can sit on the top shelf, while sneakers, heels, sandals and other shoes can fit anywhere else. It’s made of sturdy metal with polyester shelves that can each hold up to 30 pounds.

18

Scott also recommends that you “attach hooks for backpacks/bags/coats to the walls near the entryway.” These heavy duty two-pronged hooks are installed with screws and can hold up to 35 pounds of backpacks, purses, coats, keychains, umbrellas, pet leashes, and other everyday essentials. Scott’s pro tip is to install the hooks at eye-level to the user — a.k.a., make sure kids’ hooks are lower than ones for adults.

19

Designate a specific spot for mail & put it in this highly rated sorter

“Designate a spot, be it a table or a basket for mail and deliveries,” Scott continues. This adorable mail holder is a great option to keep your daily collection tidy but also visible so you never forget about that RSVP or bill. It features two slots separated by a removable divider, and it can be placed on your entryway table or installed onto the wall with simple screws.

Use the blade for liquid spills and the brush for crumbs. When you’re done, it features a built-in ledge that lets it hang off your kitchen sink to dry.

It can be cut to size and has a nonslip grip surface with a perforated design to maximize breathability.

These shelf mats are waterproof, temperature resistant, and feature a dotted, nonslip surface that prevents items from rolling around in your fridge. They can be cut to size, are food safe, and the fun colors add some organizational interest to the inside of your appliance.

These Jonyj drawer organizers are amazing because they expand from 11 to 17 inches to customize them to the length or width of your soon-to-be-tidy drawer. They have a button that locks the length in place as well as nonslip foam-covered ends that won’t scratch or damage your drawers.

[...] I really like these airtight food containers on Amazon.”

They’re great for storing baking essentials, dry bulk foods like beans, pasta, and nuts, or cereals, snacks and other goodies. Plus, they come with reusable label stickers for even more organization.

29

Put essentials in this leather catch-all tray as soon as you come home

“Have a system for when you enter and exit the home,” Giaquinto recommends. “For example, a great idea is to have a catch-all tray on an entryway table for your keys, wallet, sunglasses, etc. so you never have to think about those essential items.”

For this, she likes this faux leather tray. It’s compact but sturdy to hold all your go-to items and keep them in one easy-to-grab place. It features sleek corners, button closures, and a modern design that will not only organize but look great on your entryway table, too.

30

Store your keys, sunglasses & more in these chic hangable baskets

The woven design is made from handmade seagrass, and when you’re not using them, they collapse for easy storage.

“My favorite ‘cheap trick’ for organizing is to use what you already have at home before buying any organizing products — containers, tray, bins, etc.,” says Chicago-based certified professional organizer Amy Trager. She loves repurposing cardboard shoe boxes or cardboard jewelry boxes to “save you money and time.” These corrugated scissors have a heavy duty stainless steel blade to effortlessly cut through cardboard and other materials to help you customize them to your needs. Summers also loves repurposing normal household items. She explains, “An old ladder can become a striking vertical storage feature. Lean it against a wall and use it to hang blankets in the living room or towels in the bathroom—functional, fashionable, and totally unexpected.” If you don’t have an old ladder around, this stainless steel ladder can still turn clutter into decor. It has a luxe matte black finish and has the option to either lean on the wall or be mounted if you have small children or animals so you don’t need to worry about it falling down.
