Powerful Film Shows Indian Transgender Women on Their Journey Towards Acceptance

Hijras are transgender women in India. Often they become sex workers or beggars to support themselves.

In the documentary Black Sheep, currently scheduled for release in September, Reshel Shah follows a group of Hijras on their journeys toward becoming their authentic selves.

Like all of us, they want to be accepted...

And heard...

And loved...

"Most importantly, they are warriors. They fight for what they believe in and always will, and from that they became my inspiration, as I became their student," Shah told BuzzFeed.

The film's creators hope to bring attention and give a voice to marginalized members of a very strict society.
