Golden Globes 2013: The Story Behind Tina Fey and Amy Poehler

Culture

While much has been discussed behind the relative merits of the films and those that were nominated are elated while those that were shut out (Ben Affleck) are somewhat disappointed, this post is about the hostess's with the mostest's: Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

Vulture -a site focused on entertainment and culture, did a profile write up on these funny, talented women who so happen to be supportive friends in real life. You can read it here.

I really admire their humble roots. They both met in Chicago's ImproveOlympic Theater and started out as struggling actors and taking odd jobs to pursue their dreams and passions. With their talents, moved on to bigger and better things.

Here's an excerpt from Tina Fey's Bossypants describing their relationship:

Tina (from Bossypants): "I was so happy. Weirdly, I remember thinking, 'My friend is here! My friend is here!' Even though things had been going great for me at the show, with Amy there, I felt less alone."

I love that these two women are strong, and grown close and are each other's supportive network. It's not uncommon for people to drift apart after college or even co-workers that's joined another company. But it just goes to show that even with family and children, it doesn't have to end. They quip that they can be each other's mother-in-law seeing as Tina F. has two girls and Amy P. has two boys--it's a perfect matchup.

A Blast from the Past: April 2008 cover of Vanity Fair:

"Who Says Women Aren't Funny"?

And several years later are hosting the Golden Globes. Boom.
