Academy Awards 2013: Everything You Need to Know About the Oscars

Culture

Ladies and gentlemen, the biggest night in Hollywood is officially here. Tinsel Town is aglow, the stars are all in their finest attire, and the year's biggest movies are ready to be honored. Tonight, the top Oscar nominee is Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln, which is going into the night with 12 nods. Ang Lee’s Life of Pi is a close runner up with 11 nominations.

Of course, the real questions of the night revolve around the Best Picture nominations. Both Ben Affleck (Argo) and Kathryn Bigelow (Zero Dark Thirty) were now famously snubbed in the Best Director category which has made the Best Picture category anyone’s guess. Other big categories tonight are Best Supporting Actor (all five of the nominees have been previously nominated) and Best Actress, which seems like it will most likely go to Jennifer Lawrence for her role in Silver Linings Playbook but Emmannuelle Riva and Jessica Chastain are both contenders as well.

Seth MacFarlane will be hosting the evening, in the hopes of attracting the young male viewers. Good luck, Academy.
